Occupied El Aaiun, 24 August 2025 (SPS) - Moroccan occupation authorities expelled, on Sunday, two human rights activists from the United States and Portugal upon their arrival in the city of El Aaiun, in the occupied part of Western Sahara, according to consistent Sahrawi sources.
The two activists, members of the Washington-based "International Nonviolence Organization," were preparing to meet with former Sahrawi political prisoner Mahfouda Bamba Lefkir and other activists.
The two activists had managed, on Friday and Saturday during a visit to the occupied city of Dakhla, to meet with activists, human rights defenders, and journalists, from whom they gathered testimonies regarding the daily ordeal endured by the Sahrawi people. They had momentarily escaped the vigilance of the Moroccan occupation authorities, who had mistaken them for tourists.
These meetings allowed them to shed further light on the issue of Sahrawi civilian prisoners held in Moroccan jails, the abuses they suffer, and the violations they are subjected to.
The expulsion of the two activists highlights the media blackout policy adopted by Morocco to prevent the world from learning about the situation in the occupied Sahrawi territories.
