Slovenia, 17 January 2026 (SPS) – The Čankarjeva Dvor cultural center hosted the cultural exhibition “Trapped in the Devil’s Garden: Stories from the Sahrawi Refugee Camps,” produced by Arne Hodalish, international photographer for National Geographic magazine.

The material powerfully and precisely documents nearly five decades of displacement and the deprivation of the Sahrawi people’s inalienable right to self-determination.

It also highlighted the reality of life in the Sahrawi refugee camps which, despite the passage of time, continue to stand as living symbols of resistance, preservation of cultural identity, and attachment to a homeland that still awaits justice.

The discussions were enriched by the participation of guest speaker Erik Valenčič and were interspersed with a musical performance by artist Jigan Kraincan, creating a rich dialogue that combined investigative journalism, human testimony, and artistic expression.

The testimonies and visual narratives had a profound impact on the audience and helped raise awareness about the scale of the injustice suffered by the Sahrawi people, as well as to reaffirm the need to respect international law and the inalienable right of peoples to decide their own destiny.
