Occupied El-Aaiun, 17 July 2026 (SPS) – Sahrawi civilian prisoner Mohamed Lamine Hadi continues his open-ended hunger strike amid extremely dangerous conditions.

As part of its monitoring of the situation of Sahrawi civilian prisoners in Moroccan prisons, the Sahrawi Prisoners Protection Association received a phone call on Friday from the family of civilian prisoner and member of the Gdeim Izik group. The family reported that their son has continued his hunger strike for the fifth consecutive day after launching it last Monday, 13 July.

In the same context, the family of the prisoner added that, immediately after announcing his decision to begin an open-ended hunger strike, he was surrounded by guards and prison staff at Tiflet 2 Prison and subjected to a physical assault. He was then forcibly transferred to a solitary confinement cell lacking the most basic conditions of humane life, while being threatened with harsher punishment if he reported the ill-treatment to which he was subjected.

It should be recalled that civilian prisoner Mohamed Lamine Hadi has been held in complete isolation for nine years at Tiflet 2 Prison, Morocco, with all his rights as a prisoner of conscience fully denied and a dangerous escalation in torture and ill-treatment. This has led to a severe deterioration in his health, prompting his family to appeal to public opinion and international organizations to intervene to protect their imprisoned son and put an end to his suffering.
