Shaheed El Hafed, September 1, 2026 (SPS) – The Secretary-General of the Polisario Front and President of the Sahrawi Republic, Mr. Brahim Ghali, on Tuesday chaired a meeting of the Permanent Bureau of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front, devoted to reviewing the latest developments concerning the Sahrawi cause on various fronts and preparations for the 10th regular session of the National Secretariat.

At the outset of the meeting, members of the Permanent Bureau observed a moment of silence in tribute to the soul of Ambassador El Hiba Abbas, who passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2026, while carrying out his national duty as Ambassador of the Sahrawi Republic to Botswana.

The meeting also paid tribute to the souls of the victims of the wildfires that swept through several Algerian provinces, renewing the Sahrawi people's condolences and solidarity with the brotherly Algerian people during these difficult circumstances. It also expressed deep sympathy and solidarity with the families of the victims, wishing a speedy recovery to those injured.

In reviewing the latest developments concerning the national cause, the Permanent Bureau of the National Secretariat reaffirmed the Sahrawi people's determination to continue its struggle through all legitimate means, under the leadership of the Polisario Front, until their aspirations for freedom, independence and the establishment of its independent state are achieved.

The meeting paid tribute to the fighters of the Sahrawi People's Liberation Army stationed on the battlefronts, as well as to the activists of the Independence Intifada, particularly Sahrawi civilian prisoners held in Moroccan prisons, notably the Gdeim Izik group, commending their steadfastness in the face of repressive policies.

The Permanent Bureau expressed satisfaction with the regular implementation of national programmes across all fronts, calling on Sahrawis wherever they may be to strengthen the factors of resilience, demonstrate perseverance and remain prepared to continue their efforts and sacrifices.

Regarding preparations for the 10th ordinary session of the National Secretariat, the meeting stressed the importance of this organisational milestone, which will review and assess the national action undertaken during the past period and define the prospects for work over the coming four months, which, according to the statement, will witness important dates and developments related to the Sahrawi cause.

In this context, the Permanent Bureau stressed the need for vigilance and caution, as well as for strengthening mobilisation, preparedness and unity, consolidating efforts and making the necessary preparations to confront the challenges and anticipated developments.
