Accra (Ghana), June 16, 2026 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Republic is participating in the inaugural continental dialogue with traditional, religious, and judicial leaders in support of the implementation of the African Union’s Silencing the Guns initiative, held in the Ghanaian capital, Accra, from June 16 to 17, 2026.
This important dialogue brings together officials and representatives of the African Union and its Member States, alongside traditional, religious, and judicial leaders, with the aim of strengthening the role of local actors in conflict prevention, promoting a culture of peace, dialogue, and reconciliation, and supporting efforts to achieve the objectives of the African Union’s Silencing the Guns agenda across the continent.
The participation of the Sahrawi Republic underscores its commitment to African initiatives aimed at promoting peace, security, and stability. It also highlights the pivotal role of the African Union in addressing the root causes of conflicts and supporting peaceful political solutions based on dialogue, mutual respect, and adherence to international legitimacy.
The event also provides an opportunity to showcase the Sahrawi experience in the struggle for peace and freedom, the defense of African peoples’ right to self-determination, the consolidation of state sovereignty, and the completion of the decolonization process of Africa’s last colony. It further strengthens the presence of the Sahrawi Republic within African Union mechanisms and forums.
The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic is represented at this continental meeting by Mr. Hamma El Mehdi, a member of the African Union Steering Committee, and Mr. Dahha El Loud, Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of the Sahrawi Republic to the Republic of Ghana.
