Shaheed El-Hafed (Refugee Camps), 31 August 2025 (SPS) – The National Sahrawi Commission for Human Rights (CONASADH) has denounced the ongoing crimes of the Moroccan occupation against the Sahrawi people, calling on international justice to prosecute and hold accountable perpetrators of the Moroccan state for their grave violations of human rights against defenseless Sahrawi civilians.
In a statement Sunday marking the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, observed on August 30th each year, the Committee called on global human rights organizations, all specialized committees and mechanisms, and the relevant United Nations working groups in the field of human rights "to work towards compelling Morocco to provide information on the missing and forcibly disappeared Sahrawis."
Furthermore, it demanded an investigation into the crimes of torture, killing, abduction, and other crimes committed by the Moroccan state against defenseless Sahrawi civilians in the occupied territories of the Sahrawi Republic.
On this occasion, the statement denounced the ongoing crimes of the Moroccan occupation against the Sahrawi people and demanded the disclosure of the fate of more than 400 missing Sahrawis whose whereabouts remain unknown to this day.
The Committee appealed to international human rights and humanitarian organizations and associations to pressure the Moroccan state to respect human rights and open the occupied territories of the Sahrawi Republic to the media, international observers, and international parliamentary figures and delegations.
It condemned the "inaction" of the International Committee of the Red Cross in protecting Sahrawi citizens, their land, and their property within its mandate based on the provisions of the Fourth Geneva Convention regarding the protection of civilians in war zones.
On this occasion, the Committee also reminded the Spanish state, as the administering power of the territory, of its legal responsibilities towards the decolonization of Western Sahara, which remain in effect and do not lapse with time.
