Shaheed El Hafed, September 4, 2026 (SPS) — The National Secretariat of the Polisario Front has reaffirmed that the final solution to the conflict in Western Sahara must be based on clear and fundamental principles that guarantee the Sahrawi people’s inalienable right to self-determination and independence.

In a statement concluding the proceedings of its 10th ordinary session, held under the chairmanship of the Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, President of the Republic, Mr. Brahim Ghali, the National Secretariat addressed ongoing efforts within the framework of the UN-sponsored peace process and once again expressed the Sahrawi side’s sincere desire to see international efforts succeed.

In this context, it stressed that any solution must be grounded in clear and fundamental principles, foremost among them guaranteeing the Sahrawi people’s inalienable, non-negotiable and non-transferable right to self-determination and independence through a free, transparent and democratic process consistent with relevant UN General Assembly resolutions.

It also reaffirmed the Sahrawi people’s categorical rejection of all pseudo-solutions aimed at legitimizing the Moroccan occupation or circumventing their legitimate national aspirations for freedom, independence and full sovereignty over their entire national territory.

The National Secretariat further renewed its call on the United Nations and its relevant bodies to fully assume their responsibilities in completing the decolonization process in Western Sahara, the last colony in Africa, which has been on the UN agenda since 1963.
