Madrid (Spain), August 8, 2025 (SPS) – María Carrión, Executive Director of the Western Sahara International Film Festival (FiSahara), confirmed that the international campaign launched by the festival's administration against filming a movie in the occupied Sahrawi territories has collected over 800 signatures, including two Oscar-winning figures.

In a statement to APS, María Carrión stated that the ongoing signature drive has seen strong participation from various Sahrawi human rights organizations, cultural figures, and human rights advocates, including actor Javier Bardem and director Pedro Almodóvar, both Oscar winners.

She noted that the campaign involved sharing photos and videos of Sahrawis from the occupied territories, refugee camps, and the diaspora on FiSahara’s social media pages. These individuals held signs and sent direct messages to the film’s director, Christopher Nolan, urging him not to use footage filmed in the occupied city of Dakhla.

María Carrión emphasized that "a film cannot be shot on stolen land," stressing that the campaign "will continue demanding answers from the director, particularly regarding filming in an occupied territory belonging to the Sahrawi people."

The spokesperson expressed her conviction that the Sahrawi people, who have waited 50 years for justice and the recovery of their lands since the departure of the Spanish colonizer, will not allow this situation to persist.
