Algiers, 30 June 2025 (SPS) – Several Algerian student organizations have condemned the repression carried out by Moroccan occupation forces against Sahrawi students at Agadir University following a symbolic sit-in organized on June 19 under the theme "The Pledge of Gdeim Izik." They emphasized that these actions reflect "a dangerous drift aimed at criminalizing memory and silencing the Sahrawi student voice within the university."

In statements issued on Sunday, the student organizations strongly denounced what they described as "provocative behavior" and a "flagrant violation" of students' right to peaceful expression and the defense of their just cause. They considered that these incidents illustrate "a systematic policy of muzzling dissent in Moroccan universities, revealing the true face of the occupation in its treatment of Sahrawis—even in academic spaces."

"By targeting these students at this precise moment and imposing arbitrary sanctions, including possible expulsion, the occupation will neither break their will nor extinguish their activist consciousness," the organizations declared.

After expressing full solidarity with the Sahrawi students, the Algerian student groups stressed that the Sahrawi cause is "a just liberation struggle" and that the voice of Sahrawi students is "the voice of freedom and legitimate resistance."

They called for "respect for human rights and international charters guaranteeing freedom of expression and peaceful political action."

The organizations praised "the bravery of Sahrawi students and their commitment to principles," urging international bodies and regional student organizations "to act urgently to halt the intimidation against them."

They affirmed that "the occupation’s attempts to silence Sahrawi youth will fail against the deeply rooted will to resist among free people," adding that the Sahrawi cause "will remain alive in the consciousness of Algerian students—on campuses and in all platforms of free expression."
