Launch of  first national conference on water in Sahrawi refugee camps

Awsard (Refugee Camps), April 04, 2024 (SPS) - The President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, on Thursday supervised the kick-off of the activities of the first national conference on water in the Wilaya of Awsard, Sahrawi refugee camps. The conference was attended by the Minister of the sector, member of the National Secretariat, Mr. Adda Brahim Ahmim, and members of the National Secretariat, the government, the central office of the political organization, the National Council, the Advisory Council, and extensions of the Ministry of Water and Environment at the central, regional and local levels.

The conference saw the introduction of presentations and studies on the situation of water in the Sahrawi refugee camps, the efforts of the Ministry of Water and Environment in developing water-related services, the role of partners in supporting the sector, the main challenges and ways to address them in order to ensure the regular supply of this vital material to all citizens.

The conference will conclude with the Ministry's plan to manage the water file during the summer season and take a series of measures and procedures to ensure the success of the program. In his closing speech, after saluting the workers of the Ministry of Water and Environment, the President of the Republic called during this conference on the need to continue the efforts made to improve and provide water to all residents in all wilayas, especially during the summer season, stressing its strategic and vital importance.

President Brahim Ghali stressed the necessity of strengthening and ensuring regular water supply to all wilayas, securing this important resource for the population, and enhancing capacities to keep pace with population growth.
