Shaheed El Hafed, 25 July 2026 (SPS) – The Ministry of Occupied Territories and Diaspora Affairs has issued a statement expressing its great satisfaction and relief upon receiving the news that Sahrawi political prisoners and human rights defenders Naâma Asfari and Mohamed Lamine Haddi have suspended their open-ended hunger strikes after enduring 47 days and 12 days, respectively, in what it described as an act of heroic steadfastness.
On this occasion, the Ministry reaffirmed its absolute and unconditional solidarity with all Sahrawi civilian prisoners arbitrarily detained in Moroccan prisons, where they continue to face various forms of abuse and violations. It expressed particular solidarity with political prisoner Naâma Asfari, his family, and his wife, French activist Claude Mangin, as well as with political prisoner Mohamed Lamine Haddi and his steadfast mother, Munina Haddi.
The Ministry extended its sincere gratitude and appreciation to all national and international human rights organisations, as well as political parties, trade unions, and civil society organisations that have consistently supported and stood by Asfari, Haddi, and the other Sahrawi political prisoners. It paid tribute to these prisoners, describing them as heroes serving harsh and unjust sentences solely because of their unwavering defence of the Sahrawi people's legitimate right to freedom, independence, and self-determination.
The Ministry of Occupied Territories and Diaspora Affairs further stressed the central importance of the issue of Sahrawi political prisoners at both the national and international levels. It affirmed that securing their freedom and guaranteeing their right to life, physical integrity, and personal security remain paramount priorities. The Ministry also highlighted the immense sacrifices and heroic struggles undertaken by the prisoners, reaffirming that the struggle will continue relentlessly until victory is achieved and complete freedom and independence are secured for all prisoners and for the Sahrawi people in their free and secure homeland.
