Sahrawi Republic takes part in workshop on indicator-based surveillance and monitoring systems

Tunis, April 6, 2026 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Republic participated in a regional workshop for consultation and awareness on the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) framework concerning notifiable infectious diseases, indicator-based surveillance (IBS), and data systems in the North Africa region, held in Tunis from April 6 to 8.

The Africa CDC is accelerating the implementation of its strategy for data collection and disease surveillance, particularly for notifiable diseases, in order to strengthen public health systems and support universal health coverage. It also aims to ensure the integration of regional priorities into its strategy, which is based on early warning systems, preparedness and response to health emergencies, as well as monitoring, control, and accuracy of data.

The Sahrawi Republic was represented at this meeting by Sadafa Basher Ami Omar, Head of the Epidemiology and Pandemics Department; Entada Hamdi, Head of the Health Statistics Department; and El Bachir Essaleh, Head of the Studies Department and officer in charge of Africa affairs at the Ministry of Health.
