Sahrawi Ambassador-Designate to South Africa presents copy of credentials

Pretoria (South Africa) 13 January 2026 (SPS)- The Sahrawi Republic’s Ambassador-designate to the Republic of South Africa, Mr. Bah El Med, presented a copy of his credentials as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to South Africa’s Chief of State Protocol, Ambassador Clayson Monyela, today, reiterating the strong will of both countries to consolidating the diplomatic relations and ties of alliance and brotherhood between the two countries and peoples.

During the meeting, Ambassador Clayson Monyela warmly welcomed the Sahrawi envoy and reaffirmed South Africa’s principled and steadfast position in support of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.

He expressed Pretoria’s continued commitment to the values of justice, self-determination, and solidarity that underpin South Africa’s foreign policy, and conveyed his hope that diplomatic relations between the two countries would be elevated to even higher levels in the period ahead.

For his part, Ambassador Bah El Med expressed deep appreciation for South Africa’s courageous and deeply rooted stance in support of the Sahrawi people.

He described South Africa’s position and alliance with the Sahrawi Republic as a profound source of pride and honor for all Sahrawi people, stressing that it is regarded as a true badge of distinction, one that every Sahrawi carries with dignity and pride as a symbol of solidarity, Pan Africanism, justice, and shared values.

The Sahrawi ambassador-designate Bah El Med stressed his determination to work tirelessly to further strengthen and deepen relations between the two brotherly countries, with the aim of advancing them to distinguished and exemplary levels of cooperation.

The longstanding relationship between the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic and the Republic of South Africa is rooted in a shared history of liberation struggle, mutual solidarity, and unwavering commitment to the principles of self-determination and justice.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations and before, South Africa has consistently stood alongside the Sahrawi people in their pursuit of freedom, drawing from its own experience of overcoming apartheid and colonial domination.

This enduring partnership, grounded in common values and strengthened through political, diplomatic, and people-to-people ties, continues to serve as a model of principled African solidarity and cooperation. (SPS)
