Chahid El Hafed (Sahrawi Refugee Camps) 25 July 2026 (SPS) – The President of the Republic and Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, received on Saturday evening at the Presidency headquarters the Working Group on Natural Resources and Related Legal Issues, together with the team of international experts in solidarity with the Sahrawi people who participated in the international seminar on "The Legal Battle and the Sahrawi People's Permanent Sovereignty over Their Natural Resources.”
During the meeting, President Ghali commended the Working Group and the international experts for their significant efforts, emphasizing the strategic importance of the natural resources file. He stressed that the legal battle is no less important than the other struggles being waged by the Sahrawi people to secure their legitimate rights to freedom and independence.
The President noted that the seminar organized by the Working Group constituted an important milestone in advancing understanding of the legal struggle aimed at ensuring the Sahrawi people's permanent sovereignty over their natural resources.
He added that the event generated a high level of interest among participants and contributed to a deeper appreciation of the legal dimensions of defending and advocating for the just rights of the Sahrawi people.
President Ghali was also briefed on the latest developments in the field through presentations by members of the Working Group and the international experts.
He praised the progress achieved and reaffirmed the importance of legal action in advancing the Sahrawi people's inalienable right to self-determination and independence.
The Working Group had previously held two meetings on Thursday and Friday to examine the principal issues relating to Western Sahara's natural resources, assess its work over the past year, and outline the main priorities of its second-year work program under its mandate to monitor the natural resources file.
The meetings also included consultations with Sahrawi and international experts to discuss future avenues for cooperation and action. (SPS)
