
Nairobi (Kenya), August 1, 2025 (SPS) – The Embassy of the Sahrawi Republic in the Republic of Kenya participated in several activities and events hosted in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.
The Chargé d'Affaires of the Sahrawi Republic’s Embassy in Nairobi, Ala Omar, along with the diplomatic corps accredited to Kenya, attended the official luncheon hosted by President William Ruto in honor of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, who was on a two-day state visit to Kenya.
Kenya is known for this tradition, where the President invites ambassadors to a special luncheon on the occasion of visits by heads of state to the country.
During the reception at Kenya’s State House, Ruto and Museveni discussed bilateral relations between the two nations, focusing primarily on regional security, cross-border cooperation, and deepening bilateral ties between the neighboring countries.
This visit highlights the growing efforts to strengthen relations within the East African Community, where Kenya and Uganda remain influential members of this regional bloc.
Observers view Museveni’s visit as part of a broader regional strategy aimed at enhancing integration and cooperation in East Africa.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ala Omar, Chargé d'Affaires of the Sahrawi Republic’s Embassy, extended condolences on the passing of Ms. Phoebe Asiyo at the Kenyan Foreign Ministry. The late Ms. Asiyo was a respected leader and served as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Development Fund for Women (now UN Women) from 1988 to 1992. She was globally recognized for her advocacy for women's rights and gender equality.
