Algiers, July 13, 2026 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Republic is participating in the first edition of the Algeria African University Theatre Festival, held in Algiers with the participation of 16 African countries, which will run until July 19.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Algeria's Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamel Baddari; the Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of African Affairs, Salma Bakhta Mansouri; and the Director-General for Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Boualem Chebihi. The event was also attended by several ambassadors accredited to Algeria, including Khatri Addouh, member of the National Secretariat, Ambassador of the Sahrawi Republic to Algeria.
Held under the theme "Africa Meets on the University Theatre Stage," the cultural event features a variety of theatrical performances by participating countries. Among them is the Sahrawi delegation's play, "Dowry of Freedom" (Mahr al-Hurriya), which highlights key milestones in the history and struggle of the Sahrawi people. The production also pays tribute to Algeria's longstanding support for peoples fighting for freedom and the right to self-determination.
