Luanda (Angola), August 30, 2026 (SPS) – The President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, participated today, Sunday, in the proceedings of the 21st Extraordinary Summit of the African Union, devoted to discussing ways to strengthen mechanisms for conflict prevention and resolution on the continent, alongside the heads of state and government of AU member states.
The summit, hosted by the Angolan capital, Luanda, is addressing ways to strengthen the political, legal and financial tools available to the African Union to deal with crises and prevent the escalation of conflicts, as well as improve coordination between continental and regional mechanisms, mobilize financial resources and strengthen accountability mechanisms.
The Luanda Summit seeks to develop more effective mechanisms for addressing conflicts and crises and to enhance the capacity of African institutions to contain conflicts before they escalate, thereby supporting stability and creating space for reconstruction and sustainable development efforts in affected countries.
The President of the Republic is accompanied by a delegation comprising Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Affairs Mohamed Yeslem Besset; Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the African Union Lamine Baali; Ambassador to Angola Hamdi Khalil Mayara; and Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Republic, Salha El-Abd.
