Boumerdes (Algeria), August 11, 2026 (SPS) – The activities of the 14th edition of the Summer University for cadres of the Polisario Front and the Sahrawi State kicked off in Algeria’s Boumerdes Province.

This year’s edition is named after the martyr Sidi Ahmed Belal Hadda (Sidi Ahmed Batat).

The opening ceremony of the Summer University, held under the slogan “Self-determination and independence are an inalienable right that cannot be compromised,” was attended by President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, alongside Boumerdes Province Governor Fawzia Naama; President of the Summer University, member of the National Secretariat, Minister of Cooperation Fatma Mehdi; President of the Algerian National Committee for Solidarity with the Sahrawi People, Dr. Saeed Ayachi; as well as members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Algiers, Algerian political parties, and civil society representatives.

This edition of the Summer University provides an opportunity to reaffirm Algeria’s principled position in support of the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination, given that the Sahrawi cause is a decolonization issue on the United Nations agenda, and the need to enable the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination in accordance with international legitimacy.

The Summer University also serves as a forum for discussion and the exchange of views on various developments related to the Sahrawi cause, as well as for examining the political and diplomatic challenges it faces amid continued UN efforts to find a settlement that guarantees the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination.

The Summer University is of particular importance to executives of the Polisario Front and the Sahrawi State, as it provides an opportunity to assess the current stage, exchange expertise, and strengthen coordination on various issues related to the Sahrawi cause.
