Venezuela reaffirms support for Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination

New York (United Nations), 15 October 2026 (SPS) – Venezuela has reaffirmed its support for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination in accordance with UN General Assembly Resolution 1514 (XV) on the granting of independence to colonial countries and peoples.

Speaking before the UN General Assembly’s Fourth Committee, which deals with special political issues and decolonisation, Venezuela also expressed support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy.

Venezuela encouraged the parties to negotiate in good faith and without preconditions to achieve a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution to the Western Sahara question, in line with relevant UN resolutions.
