Shaheed El Hafed, 14 May 2026 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Republic participated today, Thursday, in the first extraordinary meeting of the North Africa Regional Capability.
The meeting, which was held via videoconference, was dedicated to the adoption of the nominations submitted by the sisterly State of Libya for the positions of Executive Secretary of the Capability and Head of the Planning Element. The member states unanimously approved these nominations in an atmosphere marked by consensus and mutual cooperation.
In his address during the meeting, the representative of the Sahrawi Republic, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army, Taleb Ami Deih, conveyed the greetings of National Secretariat member and Chief of Staff of the Sahrawi People's Liberation Army, Hamma Salama, along with his wishes for the success of the meeting’s proceedings. He reaffirmed the Sahrawi Republic’s commitment to continuing its active contribution to the development of the North Africa Regional Capability and to strengthening its readiness within the framework of the African Standby Force.
The Sahrawi delegation also reiterated the Sahrawi Republic’s adherence to the principles of peace and security, respect for international law, and the right of peoples to self-determination and independence. In this context, it praised the efforts made by the former Executive Secretary and former Head of the Planning Element during their tenure.
The Sahrawi delegation further expressed its congratulations to the new Executive Secretary, Brigadier General Bahar Fouad Ahmed Hanish, and the new Head of the Planning Element, Brigadier Engineer Mohamed Mohamed Essaghir, wishing them success in their new duties. The delegation also reaffirmed the Sahrawi Republic’s support for all efforts aimed at advancing the North Africa Regional Capability and strengthening its role in serving peace and stability across the African continent.
