Notre-Dame-du-Marillais (France), 9 March 2026 (SPS) — As part of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), a photographic exhibition titled “People of the Desert” was organized by French photographer Vincent Sarazin, in collaboration with the Sahrawi diaspora association “Bjaoui,” chaired by Ms. Deiuda Ahmedbaba Ahmedzein.
The exhibition is the result of the photographer’s visit to the Sahrawi refugee camps and offers a human and engaged perspective on the situation experienced by Sahrawi refugees, whether living in the camps or within the diaspora, particularly in the Pays de la Loire region in France.
The exhibition highlights the history and resilience of the Sahrawi people, who chose exile rather than renouncing their freedom.
The organizers emphasize that this cultural initiative aims to break the silence surrounding the Western Sahara conflict and to raise awareness among the French public about the situation of the Sahrawi people.
The exhibition is being held at La Terrasse de L’Être in Notre-Dame-du-Marillais, in the Maine-et-Loire department, for a period of four weeks. It is open to the public every Saturday and Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Several local elected officials, as well as a Member of Parliament from Loire-Atlantique, visited the exhibition and praised the initiative, proposing to host the exhibition in other cultural venues within their constituencies in order to broaden its reach.
The event attracted the attention of the local press, which dedicated two articles to it, highlighting the struggle of the Sahrawi people as well as the difficult living conditions in the refugee camps.
