Shaheed El-Hafed, February 26, 2026 (SPS) – The President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, affirmed that the Sahrawi people’s exercise of their right to self-determination and independence is the only solution to achieving a just and final peace.

In a speech addressed to the Sahrawi people on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic, President Brahim Ghali pointed out that following the United Nations Security Council’s adoption last October of Resolution 2797 on Western Sahara, current efforts—under the supervision of the United Nations and the United States of America—are aimed at reaching a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable solution through which the Sahrawi people can exercise their inalienable and imprescriptible right to self-determination and independence.

The President of the Republic added that the exercise of this right, which allows the Sahrawi people to freely, democratically, and transparently choose their future, is the only path toward achieving a just and lasting peace. He noted that policies based on imposed solutions, unlawful occupation, acquisition of territory by force, altering borders, and expansionism have proven to be failures and have in fact hindered development, cooperation, and integration to which the peoples of the region aspire.

In the same context, President Brahim Ghali indicated that since its establishment, the Sahrawi Republic has sought to promote peace on the basis of respect for the internationally recognized borders of all the states in the region, stemming from a firm conviction that stability is essential for achieving development and prosperity.
