Occupied El Aaiún, September 26, 2026 (SPS) – The Sahrawi League for the Protection of Prisoners in Moroccan Prisons has confirmed that the family of Sahrawi civilian prisoner Bashir Khadda received a brief phone call from their son on Friday evening, during which he informed them that he had arrived at the prison in the occupied city of El Aaiún, Western Sahara.
The call was subsequently cut off, preventing the family from being reassured about his health and detention conditions.
“This relocation, which comes amid the continuation of the open-ended hunger strike, is not a gift from the Moroccan occupying state or its prison administration. Rather, it is the direct result of the ongoing struggles waged by the heroes of the Gdeim Izik epic, through their legendary steadfastness and firm determination to achieve their legitimate objectives, as well as their categorical rejection of any form of concession or bargaining over their inalienable rights,” the Sahrawi human rights league said in a statement.
“The empty-stomach battle being waged by Sahrawi civilian prisoners with exceptional courage has once again demonstrated its effectiveness as a legitimate peaceful weapon in confronting the machinery of repression and mistreatment. It has shown that the prisoners’ steadfast will is capable of compelling the occupying authorities to retreat and yield to their just demands, regardless of attempts at concealment and restrictions,” the statement added.
