Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), February 10, 2026 (SPS)– The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sahrawi Republic, Mr. Mohamed Yeslem Beisat, arrived today in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, to participate in the 48th Ordinary Session of the African Union Executive Council, scheduled for February 11–12.
The Sahrawi Minister was received in the VIP hall at Bole International Airport by Mr. Eshetu Legesse, Deputy Chief of State Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, with the presence of the Sahrawi Permanent Representative to Ethiopia and the African Union, Amb. Lmam Baali, Deputy Permanent Representative, Amb. Malainin Mohamed, and the Embassy’s media and cultural attaché, Ergueibi Abdullah.
The Sahrawi Republic previously participated in the 51st session of the Committee of Permanent Representatives, represented by its Permanent Representative to the African Union, along with the permanent mission staff in Addis Ababa, during the period from January 12 to 30.

The ministers are expected to discuss the report from the 51st session of the Committee of Permanent Representatives, elect 10 countries to represent Africa’s five regions on the African Union’s Peace and Security Council, consider several other reports and adopt decisions on various topics.
It’s also noteworthy that the African Union Summit at the level of heads of state and government will be held on 14 - 15 February under the theme of “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.”
The summit is expected to help shape major directions to support development paths in Africa and address increasing challenges related to water supply and sanitation services, strengthening progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2063.
The summit will also discuss other reports on institutional reforms within the Union and peace and security in Africa, including a study on the implications of categorizing colonialism as a crime against humanity and describing some events of colonialism and slavery as genocide. (SPS)
