Occupied El Aaiun, February 1, 2026 (SPS) — Sahrawi organizations have called on the international community to pressure the Moroccan occupation to release all Sahrawi detainees, reaffirming their commitment to continue their struggle until independence.
In a statement, the Union of Students (UESARIO) highlighted the resilience of Sahrawi students and political prisoners in the prisons of the occupying State.
UESARIO also called for the release of all prisoners and for respect for the inalienable right of the Sahrawi people to freedom and independence.
For their part, the families of students imprisoned for political reasons once again called for the release of all Sahrawi political prisoners and demanded that the Sahrawi people be allowed to exercise their right to self-determination.
Meanwhile, the Sahrawi Association of Victims of Grave Violations of Human Rights Committed by the Moroccan State (ASVDH) issued a statement revealing the ill-treatment suffered by Sahrawi students and political activists.
ASVDH likewise called for the unconditional release of all prisoners and demanded respect for the fundamental rights of the Sahrawi people, foremost among them the right to self-determination.
The Collective of Sahrawi Human Rights Defenders in Western Sahara (CODESA) considered urgent the intervention of the United Nations to protect prisoners and ensure their release.
It strongly criticized the policy of the Moroccan occupier aimed at systematically targeting students, notably through harsh judicial rulings. In this context, CODESA urged human rights organizations to support Sahrawi political prisoners and their families.
