Navarre (Spain), 30 December 2025 (SPS) – The Sandship Association in the Navarre region of Spain announced the organization of a solidarity initiative in February to highlight the struggle of Sahrawi women and their steadfast defense of their people’s right to freedom and independence.
This solidarity initiative will be organized by the Sandship Association from 2 to 4 February 2026 under the slogan “The Tent Illuminates Humanity,” in cooperation with the Sahrawi Ministry of Social Affairs and Women’s Promotion and the Caja Navarra Foundation.
A Sahrawi tent will be set up as an open exhibition for visitors, composed of 31 melhfas (the traditional dress of Sahrawi women). Each melhfa will tell the story of the struggle of one of the women who defended the dignity, freedom, and just cause of their people, including ministers, diplomats, human rights activists, and artists.
The tent will be open to the public of all ages, including school students, to communicate and interact with them and to transmit experiences between generations through workshops that will introduce visitors to the customs and traditions of the Sahrawi people.
Among the most prominent participants in this initiative are Sahrawi activists Aminatou Haidar, Khadijatu Mokhtar Sidi Ahmed, Sultana Khaya, and Ghaliya Djimi.
