Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) 11 November 2025 (SPS)- The Sahrawi Republic took part in the G20–Africa High-Level Dialogue on Debt Sustainability, Cost of Capital, and Financing Reforms, held on 10 November 2025 at the Headquarters of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The Sahrawi Permanent Representative to the African Union, Lamine Baali, represented the Sahrawi Republic in this event that was organized by the Republic of South Africa, in its capacity as the 2025 G20 Presidency, in collaboration with the African Union Commission (AUC) convened under the theme “Strengthening the G20 Partnership with Africa,”. The event brought together African Union Member States, G20 member states based in Addis Ababa, as well as representatives from the United Nations (DESA, UNDP, and UNECA) and Civil Society Organisations.

The meeting was co-hosted by Deputy Minister Alvin Botes of South Africa and the AUC Commissioner for Economic Development, Trade, Tourism, Industry and Minerals, H.E. Francisca Tatchouop Belobe. It provided a high-level platform for policy dialogue and strategic coordination between Africa and the G20 on pressing global financial challenges.
Discussions focused on debt sustainability, the cost of capital, and financing reforms crucial to promoting equitable growth and resilience in African economies.
The Dialogue also built on key international and regional initiatives, including the Compromiso de Sevilla (FfFD4), the Rio BRICS Declaration, and the African Leaders’ Debt Relief Initiative (ALDRI), aligning closely with the aspirations of Agenda 2063 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Representing the Sahrawi Republic, Ambassador Lamine Baali reaffirmed the country’s commitment to African-led approaches in shaping a fair and inclusive global financial architecture.
He emphasized the importance of ensuring that African priorities and perspectives are fully reflected in global financial governance, debt reform frameworks, and development financing mechanisms. (SPS)
