Shaheed El-Hafed, October 27, 2025 (SPS) — The Sahrawi people took to the streets today, Monday, in massive demonstrations across the refugee camps, demanding a just United Nations settlement that guarantees their legitimate right to freedom, self-determination, and independence.
Citizens expressed their firm rejection of attempts to bypass international legality, reaffirming their commitment to the resolutions that guarantee the Sahrawi people’s inalienable right to self-determination and full independence.
Protesters raised national flags and chanted slogans expressing popular rejection of any solutions that contradict United Nations resolutions and the principle of decolonization, reiterating their support for all initiatives consistent with the Sahrawi people's free will.
This mass uprising follows the Polisario Front’s submission of its comprehensive proposal to the UN Secretary-General, aimed at relaunching the political process on clear foundations based on international legality. The move was followed by the Polisario Front’s official objection to the new U.S. draft resolution, which it viewed as an attempt to legitimize the occupation and divert attention from the core of the conflict.
In statements to the Sahrawi News Agency (SPS), several participants affirmed that these demonstrations were a natural response to ongoing international attempts to reimpose proposals previously rejected by the Sahrawi people. They stressed that the popular movement sends a clear message to the international community: any solution that does not guarantee the right to self-determination is doomed to fail.
The rallies saw wide participation from all segments of Sahrawi society, reflecting the spirit of national unity and reaffirming that the Sahrawi people, wherever they are, remain a strong pillar of international legitimacy and steadfast in their unwavering choice of freedom and independence.
