Addis Ababa, 7 September 2025 (SPS) - The President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, stated on Sunday that the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination is an integral part of the decolonization process in Africa.

In his speech at the second Africa-CARICOM summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, President Ghali emphasized that enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination and fully reclaim sovereignty over their entire national territory is an essential part of the continent's decolonization process.

He added that it's impossible to talk about a free and prosperous Africa as long as there are people who are denied their freedom and prevented from choosing their own future.

President Ghali also noted that the African Union, at its 37th summit, designated 2025 as the year of "Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations." He called for the establishment of a transcontinental partnership framework that includes the African Union, CARICOM, and the African diaspora in the Americas and Europe.

He also said that the Memorandum of Understanding signed in September 2024 between the African Union and CARICOM represents a practical step toward strengthening partnership and cooperation in trade, education, health, culture, and air and sea connectivity. This, he stated, will solidify a shared destiny, enhance integration among peoples, eliminate the remaining vestiges and consequences of colonialism, and enable people to determine their own destinies with freedom and dignity.

He concluded that the success of the Africa-CARICOM summit depends on its ability to dedicate itself to these shared goals and to strengthen coordinated international action to achieve reparatory justice for the colonial era and restore the historical and cultural rights that were stolen from people.
