President Brahim Ghali arrives in Addis Ababa to take part in Climate, CARICOM Summits

Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), 06 September 2025 (SPS) – President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, arrived today, Saturday, in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to participate in the Climate Summit and the Africa-Caribbean (CARICOM) Summit.

The President of the Republic was received at Bole International Airport by the Ethiopian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Berhanu Tsegaye, and the Ambassador and Director-General of Protocol. The Saharawi side was represented by the Ambassador and Permanent Representative to Ethiopia and the African Union, Lamine Baali, the Ambassador in charge of the Caribbean region, Mohamed Zroug, in addition to the staff of the Saharawi Embassy in Addis Ababa.

The Saharawi President received a special reception from the Ethiopian National Guard band, which played welcoming music in honor of the delegation.

President Brahim Ghali is accompanied by a delegation that includes: Mohamed Yeslem Beisat, Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Affairs; Ada Brahim Ahmim, member of the National Secretariat, Minister of Water and Environment; Abdati Breika, Advisor to the Presidency; and Nanna Labat, Advisor to the Presidency of the Republic in charge of Information and the Arab World.

At the Climate Summit hosted by the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, the Saharawi delegation will focus on Africa’s role in confronting climate change, given that it is the most affected despite its low contribution to global emissions. They will also seek to transform international promises into tangible financial commitments to support renewable energy and climate adaptation projects.

The delegation will also participate in the Africa-Caribbean (CARICOM) Summit, which strengthens political ties between the African Union and Caribbean nations. This summit provides a unified diplomatic force for both sides in international forums, and it affirms their support for just causes and the right of peoples to self-determination, including the Saharawi issue.

The summit provides an opportunity to establish an African-Caribbean axis capable of influencing the balance of international politics and strengthening the presence of the Global South in the face of international challenges.
