Algiers, 5 August 2025 (SPS) – The Ambassador of the Sahrawi Republic to Algeria, Khatri Addouh, stated on Tuesday that the Sahrawi people will never relinquish their inalienable and non-negotiable right to self-determination, describing Morocco’s occupation attempts to obscure this legitimate right as "futile."
The Sahrawi ambassador spoke at a conference organized by Echaâb newspaper’s forum, addressing the latest developments in the Sahrawi issue, including human rights violations and the plundering of Sahrawi resources. The event coincided with the 13th edition of the Polisario Front’s Summer University for executives, held in Algeria.
In his speech, Addouh emphasized that the Sahrawi people, under the leadership of the Polisario Front, are sending a strong and clear message through this Summer University: "Any attempt to ignore the Sahrawi people’s legitimate and inalienable right to self-determination is futile." He affirmed that the Sahrawi people "will never give up this right and will continue their struggle until independence."
"Western Sahara, the last colony in Africa, must be decolonized without further delay," he insisted.
He added that this strong message "must be heard at this pivotal moment in the history of the Sahrawi issue" so that everyone understands that "the only solution is to allow the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination." He warned that the expansionist ambitions of the Makhzen (Moroccan regime) "pose a threat to the security and stability of the region."
During the conference, Hassan Milid Ali, Coordinator of the Sahrawi National Human Rights Commission in Europe and member of the Sahrawi Lawyers' Union, highlighted the "disastrous" human rights situation in the occupied parts of Western Sahara and the looting of Sahrawi resources by the occupation—a blatant violation of court rulings and international resolutions.
"Any exploitation of these resources without the explicit approval of the Sahrawi people is a flagrant violation of international law," he asserted, condemning "the complicity of companies investing in Western Sahara, which finance the crimes of the occupation." These companies "must be held accountable," he insisted.
M’barek Sid Ahmed Mamin, in charge of occupied cities at the Sahrawi Workers' Union, also addressed the "dramatic" human rights situation in the occupied territories, where Morocco continues its grave violations against the Sahrawi people with impunity, imposing a suffocating blockade and brutal repression.
"Crossing all red lines," the occupation is committing crimes against humanity, including through the use of drones, he said, recalling reports by international human rights organizations condemning Morocco’s abuses.
Meanwhile, human rights activist El Malouma Abdallah gave a powerful testimony about the violations she and other Sahrawi youth have endured in the occupation’s prisons.
Denouncing the economic blockade and the exclusion of international observers, the activist affirmed that "nothing will break the Sahrawi people’s determination to achieve independence."
