Madrid, 29 July 2025 (SPS) - The 49th European Conference of Support and Solidarity with the Sahrawi People (EUCOCO) will take place on November 28 and 29 in Paris, announced the Spanish NGO CEAS Sahara, which supports the Sahrawi people.

"NGOs, institutions, and solidarity groups with the Sahrawi people will gather to advance this people's struggle for the end of the Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara," the organization wrote on social media.

The event will begin on November 28 with a meeting at the French Senate. "Members of parliament, senators, and representatives of legislative assemblies from several European countries will meet to promote legislative and diplomatic actions," the organizers stated.

The aim is to "pressure European governments to assume their historical and political responsibility in the decolonization of Western Sahara," they added.

Participants, including academics, journalists, experts, and representatives of civil society, will discuss mechanisms to enhance support for the Sahrawi people's legitimate struggle against Moroccan occupation to enable them to exercise their right to self-determination.

Additionally, participants are expected to examine ways to improve the coordination of efforts and establish a new action plan for 2026 to advocate for the implementation of UN resolutions regarding Western Sahara, particularly those related to organizing a self-determination referendum.

Several other issues will be on the agenda of this conference, particularly the question of human rights violations in occupied Sahrawi territories and the ongoing plundering of Western Sahara's natural resources by the Moroccan occupier.

The conference will also focus on strengthening the international solidarity network with the Sahrawi cause, including within parliamentary frameworks (at regional, national, European, and continental levels) and through city twinning agreements.

Special attention will be given to the issue of the media blackout imposed on the territory by the Moroccan occupier to prevent foreign media and international observers from documenting human rights violations against the Sahrawi people.

For reference, an "International Network of Parliamentarians for the Self-Determination of Western Sahara" was created in June 2018 at the French National Assembly.

Solidarity associations with the Sahrawi people have intensified their actions in France in recent months, as evidenced by the "March for Freedom" launched in late March from Paris to demand the release of Sahrawi political prisoners in Moroccan jails.
