Dakhla Wilaya, 28 October 2026 (SPS) – Authorities and residents of Dakhla Wilaya staged mass demonstrations on Wednesday to reject the US “zero draft” submitted to the UN Security Council.
Demonstrators described the draft as a dangerous departure from international legitimacy, stressing that any settlement that fails to guarantee the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination is doomed to fail.
The demonstrations brought together broad segments of Sahrawi society, reaffirming national unity and the Sahrawi people’s unwavering commitment to freedom, independence and a solution based on international legitimacy.
Following the draft’s circulation, the Polisario Front, through its Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Coordinator with MINURSO, Dr Sidi Mohamed Omar, warned that it would withdraw from the entire peace process if the draft were adopted. The Front also called on Security Council members to uphold their responsibilities and respect international legitimacy.
