Copenhagen (Denmark), 22 October 2026 (SPS) – A Sahrawi women’s delegation, led by Minister of Social Affairs and Promotion of Women Soueilma Beirouk, held a meeting with Danish civil society representatives at the headquarters of the Danish organisation Global Aktion in Copenhagen, under the theme “Her Voice, Her Struggle: Women Resisting Occupation.”
The meeting was attended by academics, researchers, students and civil society representatives. The delegation also included Mina Baali, a member of the Sahrawi Body Against the Moroccan Occupation, and Khadija Ali Mohamed, Polisario Front representative in Denmark.
In her address, Minister Beirouk highlighted the role of Sahrawi women in organising refugee life during the early years of the Moroccan invasion of Western Sahara, building the institutions of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic and assuming leadership responsibilities across social, political and diplomatic fields.
Mina Baali outlined the reported human rights violations against Sahrawi women in the occupied territories, including arbitrary detention, torture, abduction and enforced disappearance. She stressed the importance of Sahrawi human rights organisations in documenting and exposing these violations.
Discussions also addressed Sahrawi political prisoners in Moroccan jails, the exploitation of Western Sahara’s natural resources and obstacles to UN efforts to achieve a just and lasting solution guaranteeing the Sahrawi people’s inalienable right to self-determination and independence.
The Copenhagen meeting followed the delegation’s visit to Stockholm, where it held discussions with Swedish political and human rights figures, including representatives of the Olof Palme International Center and the Swedish Social Democratic Women’s organisation. The delegation also met civil society and solidarity organisations to highlight the resilience of Sahrawi women, the human rights situation in the occupied territories and the importance of international solidarity with the Sahrawi people.
