NEPAD delegation briefed on Sahrawi experience in institution building

Shaheed El Hafed, July 1, 2026 (SPS) – A delegation from the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) was briefed on the Sahrawi experience in institution building during a fact-finding visit to several national institutions in the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.  

The delegation, currently on an official visit to the Sahrawi Republic, was introduced to the Sahrawi experience in public healthcare and other services provided by the Sahrawi State to citizens despite limited resources and the challenges of refugee life.

The delegation was also received at the University of Tifariti by the Minister of Education, Teaching and Vocational Training and member of the National Secretariat, Abdelkader Taleb Omar, who welcomed the visitors and delivered a detailed presentation on the pioneering Sahrawi experience in education.

The delegation received a comprehensive briefing on the University of Tifariti, covering the circumstances surrounding its establishment, its academic mission, its partnerships with international institutions and organizations, and its important role in promoting awareness of the Sahrawi national cause.

The visitors also attended a presentation highlighting the university's principal achievements, the challenges it faces, and its future plans and prospects.

At the Ministry of Transport and Energy, the delegation was received by Minister Salek Mohamed Embarek, who presented an overview of the ministry, its organizational structure, and its mandate. He outlined its key responsibilities in serving citizens and strengthening essential public services, particularly the provision of free transportation and equipment, as well as electricity, gas, and fuel supplies, in addition to other services related to the sector.

The delegation was also received by the Minister of Water and Environment, Ahmed Bachr Ammi Omar. Discussions focused on a number of issues related to the water and environmental sector, including the challenges facing the African continent in adapting to climate change, enhancing the management and value of water resources, protecting ecosystems, and the importance of strengthening African partnerships to address various development challenges.
