Moscow (Russian Federation), April 28, 2026 (SPS) – The Russian capital, Moscow, hosted the activities of the first forum of the Sovintern organization, which featured multiple discussion sessions with the participation of representatives from progressive parties from around the world.

During a session titled “Regional Conflicts and the Role of the Sovintern Organization,” Mohamed Yeslem Beissat emphasized that expansionist policies are among the main causes of regional conflicts, noting that they lead to invasion and foreign occupation of countries. He also considered that the colonial policies pursued by France encourage some states to intervene militarily against their neighbors.

The Sahrawi official added that another cause of conflicts is the failure to respect peoples’ rights to freedom and self-determination, as well as violations of their legitimate rights, which push them to resist in defense of their internationally recognized national interests. He also stressed that illegal plunder and the theft of resources to serve colonial and neo-colonial agendas constitute a key factor in fueling these conflicts.

In a related context, a second roundtable titled “For a New Socialism in the 21st Century” discussed ways to build alternative political visions. It was chaired by Vladimir Smirnov, a member of the founding group of the international socialist network Sovintern, and Luis Pérez Lira from the Popular International Against Imperialism, with the participation of prominent figures, including Fidel Antonio Castro Smirnov, a member of the Cuban Academy of Sciences and professor at the University of Havana, and Pablo Salvador Sepúlveda Allende, along with several leaders of leftist parties in Latin America.

A third roundtable addressed the topic “Anti-Imperialist Struggle in the Middle East and the World,” chaired by Jackson Hinkle, a member of the executive council of the American Communist Party, and George Galloway, leader of the British Workers Party.

It is worth noting that A Just Russia Party, the organizer of the forum, is one of the five parliamentary parties in the Russian Federation. It currently ranks third in terms of the number of seats in the State Duma and maintains relations with countries that have experienced colonialism and imperialism, including Western Sahara.
