Shaheed El Hafed, April 23, 2026 (SPS) – The National Council held Thursday a general session, chaired by the member of the National Secretariat, President of the National Council, Mr. Bachir Mustapha Sayed.
The session was dedicated to presenting and discussing the results and outcomes of the 9th ordinary session of the National Secretariat, which took place on Thursday and Friday.
The President of the National Council delivered a comprehensive briefing on the deliberations of the session and its main conclusions, based on an evaluation of national efforts on all fronts. He highlighted the attention given by the National Secretariat to the Sahrawi people’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Republic.
He also addressed the ongoing consultation process between the Polisario Front and Morocco, conducted under the joint auspices of the United Nations and the United States, which has brought the Sahrawi issue back into international political and media focus.
He pointed out the scale of challenges facing the UN-led process, particularly in light of what he described as the failure of the United Nations and the UN Security Council to fulfill their responsibilities regarding the decolonization of Western Sahara.
He reaffirmed that the National Secretariat session recorded the Sahrawi people’s unwavering commitment to their inalienable right to self-determination and independence, and their refusal to compromise on national sovereignty.
He stressed the need to adapt plans and programs to the conditions of war and to enhance performance and action in confronting Moroccan occupation strategies across key fronts, including the People’s Liberation Army, the occupied territories, and diplomatic and media fronts.
The session also addressed preparations for the National Council’s spring session. The Secretary-General of the National Council, Mr. Saleh Ibrahim, reviewed the process of submitting draft laws for the spring session and the decision by the Council’s bureau to reject them.
The session further included a number of interventions by National Council members regarding preparations for the upcoming spring session.
