Shaheed El-Hafed, April 19, 2026 (SPS) – The wilaya of Smara will host, on April 20–21, the proceedings of the 10th Congress of the National Union of Sahrawi Women (NUSW), named after the martyr Khadija Hamdi, under the slogan: “Sahrawi Women: Resilience and Sacrifice for Independence and Freedom.”

More than 400 delegates representing various branches of the women’s organization are taking part in the congress, in addition to notable participation from national institutions and international guests from women’s organizations in several countries.

The Secretary-General of the Women’s Union, Chaba Seini, had previously stated during a press conference held earlier this month that the congress would be an important opportunity to highlight the struggles of Sahrawi women, as well as the achievements and challenges of the past period.

The congress is expected to elect a new leadership for the union (a Secretary-General and an Executive Bureau) responsible for implementing the organization’s policy as defined by the congress for the next four years. It will also approve the legal framework governing the women’s movement and set out a work strategy through a program for the coming period, in addition to issuing a set of recommendations and messages addressing overall national and international issues and concerns.
