Algiers, March 10, 2026 (SPS) – The Diplomatic Forum of Solidarity with the Sahrawi People has held its 7th ordinary session at the headquarters of the Embassy of South Africa.

The meeting was chaired by South Africa’s Ambassador to Algeria, Mr. Ndumiso Ntshinga, and attended by ambassadors from more than 17 countries accredited to Algeria, representing different continents and expressing solidarity with the Sahrawi people and their just cause.

The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Affairs, Mohamed Yeslem Beissat, along with the member of the National Secretariat, Sahrawi Ambassador to Algeria, Khatri Addouh.

During the meeting, the Sahrawi Minister of Foreign Affairs delivered a detailed briefing to the forum on the latest developments in the Sahrawi cause, highlighting the growing international interest in resolving the issue in order to enable the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination, in accordance with international community resolutions.

The minister reaffirmed the Sahrawi people’s adherence to their legitimate and inalienable right to self-determination, noting the achievements made by the Sahrawi people and their just cause over the past 50 years.

The minister also thanked the members of the forum for their solidarity and extended his appreciation, through them, to their brotherly and friendly countries for their support.

At the end of its meeting, the Diplomatic Forum issued a statement renewing its solidarity with the Sahrawi people and stressing the need to enable them to exercise their right to self-determination and independence. The forum also praised Algeria—both its people and government—for its steadfast positions in supporting and backing the struggle of the Sahrawi people to secure their rights to freedom and independence.

For his part, the South African ambassador stated in his remarks that the Sahrawi issue is a matter of decolonization and that the international community bears a great responsibility in enforcing international legitimacy and the relevant United Nations resolutions.

Meanwhile, the Sahrawi Ambassador to Algeria, Khatri Addouh, stated to the press on the sidelines of the forum that enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination is the fundamental basis for any solution, considering that the question of Western Sahara remains a decolonization issue.
