
Gaborone (Botswana) 22 October 2025 (SPS)- The outgoing Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic to the Republic of Botswana and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Bah El Mad Abdellah, has commended SADC for its steadfast support of the Sahrawi people’s struggle for decolonization and self-determination.
Ambassador Bah made the remarks during a farewell courtesy visit to the SADC Executive Secretary, Mr. Elias Mpedi Magosi, at the SADC Secretariat in Gaborone, marking the conclusion of his two-year tenure in Botswana. He is set to assume his new role as the Sahrawi Ambassador to the Republic of South Africa.
The Sahrawi diplomat expressed deep appreciation for the cooperation and solidarity extended by SADC throughout his diplomatic mission. He underscored the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SADC and SADR on 2 April 2025 as a key milestone achieved during his term, symbolizing tangible progress in the partnership between the two entities.
Executive Secretary Magosi, in turn, reaffirmed SADC’s unwavering commitment to supporting the people of Western Sahara in their pursuit of self-determination, in line with the principles of the African Union and the United Nations.
He recalled the resolutions of the 45th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government, held in Antananarivo, Madagascar, on 17 August 2025, which reiterated regional solidarity with Western Sahara and emphasized the alignment of the SADC-SADR MoU with international and continental peace efforts.
Ambassador Bah’s farewell marks the end of a significant chapter in SADR–SADC relations, highlighted by strengthened diplomatic engagement and shared commitment to the decolonization agenda in Africa. (SPS)
