Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), September 09, 2025 (SPS) – The Permanent Representative of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) to Ethiopia and the African Union, Mr. Lamine Baali, praised the success of the Africa-Caribbean (CARICOM) Summit and the second African Climate Summit, hosted by the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, with broad participation from leaders and heads of state of the African continent and the Caribbean region from September 6 to 9.
In a statement to the Sahrawi Press Agency (SPS) and national media, the Ambassador emphasized that the participation of the Sahrawi Republic, led by a high-level delegation headed by the President of the Republic, the Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, carried significant political implications. Most notably, it reaffirmed the Sahrawi state's active presence in continental and international forums and highlighted its steadfast commitment to defending issues of liberation and the rights of peoples.
The Sahrawi diplomat pointed out that the presence of the Sahrawi Republic was a fundamental source of support for just causes in Africa and the world, particularly those related to peoples' rights to self-determination and independence. This includes holding forces of occupation and old and new colonialism accountable for crimes associated with the colonial era, alongside calls for reparations and compensation for peoples who have suffered oppression and colonization.
Regarding the Climate Summit, Ambassador Lamine Baali stressed that the Sahrawi Republic's participation helped shed light on the shared concerns of the African continent and Global South nations regarding climate change and global warming. He emphasized the necessity of enhancing collective action and international cooperation to protect the environment and ensure climate justice, enabling colonized and deprived peoples to benefit from their natural resources and preserve their environment.
He also highlighted that the Sahrawi Republic's participation in these two important international events reaffirmed its status as a founding member of the African Union and an active partner in regional and international efforts aimed at achieving sustainable development and addressing global challenges.
