Boumerdes (Algeria), August 17, 2026 (SPS) – The 14th edition of the Summer University for Executives of the Polisario Front and the Sahrawi Republic continues its work with a diverse program addressing a range of political, social, and organizational issues related to the national cause.
In this context, the Secretary-General of the General Union of Saguia el-Hamra and Rio de Oro (UGTSARIO), Mr. Nafei Ahmed Mohamed, delivered a lecture on civil society and its role in strengthening solidarity with the Sahrawi people and its just cause, as well as on volunteer work and its role in building society.
The lecturer highlighted the importance of civil society in strengthening the cohesion of Sahrawi society and promoting a culture of participation and volunteerism, in addition to its role in raising awareness of the national cause and expanding circles of solidarity with it at the regional and international levels.
He stressed that Sahrawi civil society has, through a long process, developed effective mechanisms and means for conveying the voice of the Sahrawi people and promoting awareness of their just cause with a high degree of professionalism. It has made use of various civil, human rights, trade union, youth, and women’s platforms, contributing to strengthening the presence of the Sahrawi cause in international civil forums and events.
The Secretary-General addressed the importance of volunteer work as a fundamental driver for building society and fostering a spirit of solidarity, mutual support, and collective responsibility. He noted that civil action is not limited to providing services and social initiatives, but also constitutes a space for participation, expression, and defending national rights.
The lecture concluded by emphasizing that developing civil society and strengthening volunteer work constitute a societal and national priority, given their role in building a cohesive and active society and expanding the international solidarity network supporting the Sahrawi people’s struggle for self-determination and independence.
