
Madrid (Spain), June 19, 2025 (SPS) – The Secretary-General of the General Union of Workers of Saguia el-Hamra and Río de Oro (UGTSARIO), Mr. Nafei Ahmed Mohamed, took part in the proceedings of the 13th Congress of the Spanish Workers' Committees (CCOO), held in the Spanish capital, Madrid, from 19 to 21 June.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Polisario Front’s representative in Spain, Mr. Abdullah Al-Arabi, and the head of International Relations and Cooperation at the Workers' Union, Mr. Mohamed Salem Hamma. The event also witnessed the participation of Spanish government ministers, representatives of political parties and trade unions, as well as international delegations from various labor organizations worldwide.
The congress brings together over 700 delegates representing 26 regional and sectoral bodies, following preparatory regional and sectoral conferences where offices were elected and delegates selected.
The Sahrawi cause was highlighted through interventions by participants and bilateral meetings held by the Sahrawi delegation with various trade unions from across the globe.
The congress is expected to conclude with the adoption of a program, action plan, and final statement, as well as the election of new leadership for the organization. The final declaration is anticipated to reaffirm the necessity of respecting the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination through a free and fair referendum, allowing them to freely choose their future. It will also express solidarity with the Sahrawi and Palestinian peoples.
