Occupied El Aaiun, September 30, 2026 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Body Against the Moroccan Occupation (ISACOM) warned on Tuesday of the deteriorating condition of Sahrawi civilian prisoners held in Moroccan prisons, calling for urgent international intervention to protect their rights and ensure their safety.
In a statement, the body expressed serious concern over the situation of nine prisoners from the Gdeim Izik group who have been on hunger strike since September 23, amid reports of deteriorating conditions among Sahrawi prisoners in several Moroccan prisons.
It denounced what it described as systematic restrictions, isolation, mistreatment and medical neglect, and reaffirmed its full solidarity with the prisoners and their demands for dignity and respect for their rights.
The body called for the prisoners’ conditions of detention to comply with the Fourth Geneva Convention and for their release in accordance with relevant UN decisions concerning arbitrary detention and torture.
It also urged the international community to intervene urgently and exert pressure to ensure respect for the prisoners’ rights and implementation of relevant UN decisions, holding Morocco fully responsible for the safety and fate of the hunger strikers.
The nine prisoners are being held in Ait Melloul 2, Tiflet 2 and Kenitra Central Prison.
