Cotonou (Benin), August 10, 2026 (SPS) – Attempts by the Moroccan occupation regime to promote its colonial narrative met with resounding failure during the 17th edition of the World Social Forum, recently held in the city of Cotonou, Republic of Benin, amid a broad wave of international solidarity with the Sahrawi people's struggle for freedom and independence, reported the Algerian Press Service (APS).
The same source indicated that the Moroccan occupation delegation failed to stem the tide of solidarity expressed by participating delegations from various continents, who actively took part in the activities organized by the Sahrawi delegation over the course of three days.
APS highlighted that the Sahrawi participation featured workshops and awareness-raising sessions for civil society actors in Benin. The participating delegations also organized a large march during which the flags of the Sahrawi Republic were raised, along with banners expressing solidarity with the struggles of the Sahrawi and Palestinian peoples.
During the forum, the Sahrawi delegation set up a dedicated pavilion for civil society organizations, providing a space to introduce visitors to the history of the Sahrawi struggle. The pavilion also hosted bilateral meetings with delegations and representatives of international organizations participating from different continents, while the activities that the Moroccan occupation delegation attempted to organize received little to virtually no attendance.
