Shaheed El Hafed, July 13, 2026 (SPS) – The Minister for the Occupied Territories and Diaspora, Mr. Mohamed El Mami Tamek, stated on Monday that the struggle being waged by Sahrawi civilian prisoner Naâma Abdi Asfari and his fellow detainees stands as a shining example of sacrifice for dignity, freedom, and independence.

He called for greater national unity and an escalation of resistance to confront the plans of the Moroccan occupation.

Speaking at a solidarity gathering organized by the Political and Administrative Unit in Shaheed El Hafed Boujomaa, the minister stressed the importance of standing firmly behind Sahrawi civilian prisoners.

The solidarity event was attended by Prime Minister Bouchraya Hamoudi Bayoun, members of the National Secretariat, the Sahrawi National Council, the Government, national human rights organizations, officials from branches of the political organization, and representatives of national institutions. Participants united in a national show of solidarity with Sahrawi civilian prisoners in general, and with Naâma Asfari in particular.

In his address, the minister warned of the extremely critical deterioration in the health of Naâma Asfari, who is being held in Morocco's Kenitra prison. Asfari has now entered the 36th day of his open-ended hunger strike, which he launched on June 8 after previously undertaking three warning hunger strikes.

The Minister for the Occupied Territories and Diaspora emphasized that the Sahrawi people are facing a major challenge and a historic opportunity, summed up by the choice of "to be or not to be." He described Asfari's steadfast hunger strike as a call to the conscience of every Sahrawi to assume responsibility from their respective positions and to intensify resistance through all legitimate means and on all fronts.
