Tiflet 2 Prison (Morocco), June 26, 2026 (SPS) – Sahrawi civilian prisoner Mohamed Lamin Haddi has begun a 48-hour warning hunger strike starting on Thursday, according to the Sahrawi Prisoners Protection League in Moroccan prisons.
According to the same source, the prisoner's family stated that he has undertaken this step in protest against the mistreatment and threats he is subjected to by staff at Tiflet 2 Local Prison. The family noted that the situation has worsened following the issuance of decisions by the UN Committee Against Torture concerning the case of the Gdeim Izik prisoners.
The family of the civilian prisoner expressed deep concern for their son's safety and well-being, fearing possible retaliatory measures by the prison administration. They called on international organizations, human rights bodies, and all people of conscience to intervene in order to end the suffering of their son and all Sahrawi prisoners.
Sahrawi civilian prisoner Mohamed Lamin Haddi is being held at Tiflet 2 Local Prison, east of the Moroccan capital Rabat, under unjust and harsh 25-year prison sentence. The sentence was handed down following a trial in the Moroccan city of Salé that lacked the guarantees and standards of a fair trial, a view reportedly shared by international human rights organizations such as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International. The case is linked to the dismantling of the Sahrawi protest camp of Gdeim Izik in November 2010, located east of the occupied city of El Aaiun.
