New York (United Nations), April 11, 2026 (SPS) – Dr. Sidi Mohamed Ammar, member of the National Secretariat, representative of the Polisario Front at the United Nations, coordinator with MINURSO, met Friday with Rosemary DiCarlo, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, ahead of the closed consultation session that the UN Security Council will hold regarding the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).
During the meeting, held at UN Headquarters, discussions focused on the UN-led peace process in Western Sahara, in light of recent talks co-chaired by the United Nations and the United States. The Sahrawi diplomat briefed the UN official on the Polisario Front’s position regarding the various issues related to the peace process and its prospects.
The UN Security Council is expected to hold closed consultations on MINURSO under the Bahraini presidency on April 24, during which it will hear briefings from the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and head of MINURSO, Alexander Ivanko.
The Polisario Front had previously emphasized that enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise their inalienable and imprescriptible right to self-determination and independence is the only path toward achieving a just and lasting peace.
