Occupied El-Aaiun (Sahrawi Republic), 10 December 2025 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Organization against the Moroccan Occupation (ISACOM) reaffirmed the suffering of the Sahrawi people under occupation, in a statement issued today, Wednesday, on the 77th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The Organization called on the international community to take urgent action to protect the rights of Sahrawi civilians and to ensure respect for international law and humanitarian conventions.
The statement stressed that this day is an opportunity to recall the meaning of inherent human dignity, while also reviewing the severe violations endured by the Sahrawi people, which have caused chronic psychological and social harm, hindered nation-building, and obstructed the stability and progress of the Sahrawi people.
The Organization affirmed that the continued deterioration of human rights conditions in the occupied territories reflects the growing Moroccan repression machine, which has found reassurance in the complicity of the international climate, allowing it to intensify violations and enjoy impunity.
It noted that international law, conventions, and humanitarian treaties have, in many cases, become hostage to the interests of major powers, ignoring the suffering of the oppressed and the plight of colonized peoples.
The statement added that the UN Security Council has not allocated any genuine attention to monitoring or observing human rights in Western Sahara, while Morocco continues to block the High Commissioner for Human Rights’ mission from entering the occupied territories. The role of the International Committee of the Red Cross has also been absent since its last visit to Sahrawi political prisoners in 1996.
ISACOM called on the United Nations, the African Union, and international and regional organizations to take urgent measures, including the immediate and unconditional release of all Sahrawi political prisoners, opening the territory to international observers and foreign journalists, ensuring the protection of human rights defenders from the repression of the occupying authorities, intervening to protect Sahrawi property, land, and natural resources from looting and destruction, and supporting the Sahrawi people's inalienable right to self-determination.
