Luanda (Angola), 24 November 2025 (SPS) – The President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Brahim Ghali, emphasized in his speech on Monday before the proceedings of the Seventh African Union–European Union Summit, held in the Angolan capital Luanda, the centrality of the Western Sahara question to any genuine approach to peace and security on the African continent. He stressed that Africa “still has one decolonization case—the last of its kind on the continent—that has not yet been completed.”

The President of the Republic reminded African and European leaders that the Sahrawi people are still “struggling with patience and steadfastness, and waiting… to finally be allowed to exercise their legitimate, inalienable and non-expiring right to self-determination and independence, just like the rest of the peoples of Africa and the world.”

He also stressed that the Sahrawi Republic looks forward to “an active role by the European Union in consolidating peace and ending destructive wars and armed conflicts in Africa, as well as committing to respect and implement international law, international humanitarian law, and European law.”

President Ghali called on the European Union to “stop any foreign interference that exploits crises, escalates tension and instability, and to work to guarantee the sacred right of peoples to self-determination and sovereignty over their natural resources.”

He considered that “the foundation of the Africa–Europe partnership is constructive dialogue and the necessary trust between both sides, based on mutual respect and adherence to shared values and principles—those on which the European Union was founded, and those enshrined in the Constitutive Act of the African Union.”

The President of the Sahrawi Republic is participating at the head of a large delegation including: the Sahrawi Foreign Minister Mohamed Yeslem Beissat; the Permanent Representative to the African Union, Lamine Baali; the Sahrawi Ambassador to Angola and Namibia, Hamdi El Khalil Mayara; the Ambassador in charge of Presidential Protocol, Salha El-Abd; Presidential Advisor Abdati Breika; and the Advisor in charge of Arab World Affairs, Nanna Labat Errachid.

The Sahrawi Republic had also participated in the experts’ preparatory meeting for the summit, held Sunday at ambassadorial level, with the participation of ambassadors Lamine Baali and Hamdi El Khalil Mayara.
